Your Say, Your Industry, Your Association – One Voice!

The BISHTA annual general meetings took on a new stance this year as two separate conference days held at the BSPF Andover Offices. Providing association members with a full day of specific content, aimed to deliver a review of the associations actions and plans. Along with sharing information on the main industry concerns, bringing together topical business information from industry and business experts and the opportunity to meet with industry peers to network, share your opinions, concerns and views.

Tuesday 29th October; AGM presentations were given by Chris Hayes and Sallie Golding with the BISHTA meeting chaired by Alex Kemsley (BISHTA Chairman). Guest presenters added valuable content to the agenda;

Peter Duffy (Independent Financial Services (UK) Limited)

As Director of Associate Development, Peter uses his vast experience of managing financial advisers to maximise their potential. An acknowledged expert in the advisory process, Peter has designed compliance and training and competency schemes for a range of IFA companies, at both local and national level. Peter shared valuable information on the implementation of workplace pension auto-enrolement.

Dr Ginny Moore (Public Health England)

Ginny is based at Porton Down in Wiltshire and is part of the Biosafety Investigation Unit.  Her research into inflatable hot tubs was prompted by the Legionella deaths in Staffordshire in 2012. Ginny shared the finding with delegates on PHE Research into Inflatable Hot Tubs and Aerosolisation.

Richard Lamburn (Technical Manager for Pool Plant, STA)

Richard has over ten years of experience of working in pool plant rooms, having previously worked for Birmingham City Council where he headed up the plant room operations of 14 local pools, experiencing a wide variety of pool designs and potential issues. Richard gave delegates an update on workforce developments, how BISHTA and the STA can provide affordable qualifications, a range of bite-size courses through a mixture of online and face-to-face learning resources.

Dorian Davies (Doric Marketing)

Dorian has been involved in the swimming pool and hot tub industry for 28 years. Working in frontline sales and marketing roles for some of the world’s biggest names in swimming pools, hot tubs, sauna and steam; with experience in both B2B and B2C environments. He is one of the most recognised faces in the industry. Dorian shared data on the growing sector of Hot Tubs in Holiday Lodges and gave tips on tailoring your approach for a share of the market.

Howard Gosling (Pool and Spa Advice)

Howard is an industry stalwart and has many high profile roles within the pool and spa industry.  He is an independent consultant who is also BISHTA’s Technical Advisor.  In addition to other roles within the wider BSPF family, he is also a Director of PWTAG and is also on ISPE’s Council. Howard presented updateon the Management of Spa Pools.

The BISHTA conference closed with an open forum, this part of the day gave members the chance to discuss any important issues, identify any committee nominations and seek feedback from members on how to improve their association.
